My Space!
In October my husband was unceremoniously retired from his 20 plus year job. He was being replaced with a robot. I had been working from home alone for many years up to this point and now someone else would be here during the day with me. It wasn’t something that I had a conscious thought about mostly because we are not just husband and wife, we are friends. We enjoy each other’s company.
But maybe I should have thought about it a little beyond the obvious. There is a certain freedom that comes with working from home alone and soon that would be interrupted. Every time I ascended the stairs to use the rest room or go to the kitchen, there he was. Texts from him to turn my speakers down or to shut the door because he had to take a call. UGH! Sometimes he wouldn’t say a word, but I could feel his energy and all of it was intrusive.
I needed to do something! Something that would work for both of us without either of us feeling like we were intruding on the other.
I had a “designated space” in our home that I worked in but up to that point, I wouldn’t say that it was my office because if I got bored or needed inspiration, I would just go to Starbucks or the library or even the food court at the local mall. That all ended with the pandemic.
Since I was going to be stuck working from home, I needed to create something that made me feel comfortable, productive and creative. I set out to make a few changes to my office space and before I knew it, I was well on my way creating what I never knew I needed. This space has become not just the place where I work, but also my retreat.
Sometimes we don’t know what we need until we are forced to make a change. Embrace it!

The three pictures on the wall are a representation of what moves me as well as the two images on the monitors. The left image if from my life changing visit to Cuba and the typewriter image is one I captured while antiquing.
